9/07/11 - 9/08/11 Multiple Water Rescues and Evacuations
For the remainder of the night crews deployed 3 inflatable boats into the flooded streets of Pine grove. One boat crew worked the area of Pottsville Street and corresponding side streets as the second two boat crews motored their boats up Tulpehocken street to continue with evacuation efforts, crews were able to maneuver through several areas of fast moving rapids with multiple submerged obstructions including several vehicles and buildings along with other various debris flowing across the roads to gain access to residents and their pets stranded in their homes. As flood levels continued to rise and the rain continued to fall command advised all units to return to shelter due to a possible tornado warning. After resting for 2 hours command allowed crews to return to Pottsville Street to rescue the remainder of the stranded residents. Crews arrived and determined that due to the swift water conditions flowing across the streets that using the motorized inflatable boats would be unsafe and ineffective. Crews then decided to set up multiple line systems across multiple porches and across multiple areas of swift water so they could deploy an inflatable boat tethered to these line systems. After using almost all of the rope equipment from 734 the team was able to remove the remaining residents and pets on Pottsville Street. After a long deployment in Pine Grove crews were placed available to return to Schuylkill Haven around noon. At that time command had listed an estimated 60-70 people had been rescued and evacuated by the Schuylkill Haven Dive Team. The Schuylkill Haven Fire Department would like to commend Pine Grove Command and all emergency departments involved with this major incident, multiple mutual aid companies from multiple counties worked to their limits to provide technical rescue services to the residents of Pine Grove. Another thank you goes to the operators of the Brush truck from North End for safely navigating our members through the deteriorating conditions on Geary Wolfe Road.

9/07/11 Swift Water Rescue
After returning to Pine Grove Station 1, dive team members began to reassemble and prepare equipment for future rescue responses. During this time the team was requested to report back to Geary Wolfe road to try and persuade more residents to evacuate due to the forecasted weather. Upon arrival the team received a call for a swift water rescue in the area of Geary Wolfe road and Swopes Valley road. Dive team members loaded equipment onto a 5ton Brush truck operated by the North End Fire Company and continued thru the flood waters to the area of the incident. Crews arrived on scene to find 2 victims trapped in a pickup truck drifting across the road in swift water. The brush truck was able to maneuver close enough to the now pinned vehicle for crews to deploy 3 members into the water. Crews secured a line from the brush truck to the vehicle and after placing floatation devices on the victims they were able to extricate the 2 victims to the brush truck where they were pulled on board by other dive team members. As conditions deteriorated it was determined that the brush truck could not return from the point of entry and had to continue up the mountain road to find another way back to Pine Grove. After maneuvering through several washed out roads and large areas of raging flood waters the Brush truck was able to make its way back into Pine Grove.
